Isn't talking to a person better than using an app?
Usually. But the app can be there when you are all alone. We know that when you are talking to a therapist, individually or in group settings, there are benefits these apps simply can't duplicate. On the other hand, we know that your thinking during an urge is quite different than when you are clear-headed in a therapy setting, so these apps are specifically designed to help you during those "messed up thinking" periods when you are in the middle of urges.
We strongly recommend that you confide in at least one friend when you are working on ending a stubborn habit. Turning to that friend at critical moments can be a lifesaver, and that's why all our apps include a "call a friend" feature in the "Personal support" section. That person (or persons) can be a friend, a relative, a spouse or significant other, or anybody in the community you trust. We also realize, however, that you are not always going to feel comfortable calling that person. Our apps are designed to give you advice when you need it whenever and wherever you are. Patiently. Nonjudgmentally. Doggedly. In fact, after you receive initial advice in response to a help request, the app sticks around and checks back to see if you need more help. It uses the exact time when you are vulnerable to give deeper advice through 50 or more videos that we think work like “teachable moments.” Don't worry, the app never loses patience or feels put out by offering help. All you have to do is ask.
